COVID 19 Grants for Teachers and Support Staff
The COVID-19 Grant program was established by the State of Michigan to support both teachers and support staff working in public schools. Please find the details regarding this opportunity below:

Background. This grant program provides compensation to eligible K-12 classroom teachers and support staff in recognition of the additional efforts exerted during the 2019-2020 school year while supporting the continued learning of students during the closure. Pursuant to Public Act 166 of 2020, staff members that meet the eligibility requirements described here for teachers and here for support staff will receive this compensation directly from the state.

District Responsibility. Under this Act, the District is required to identify eligible staff members and subsequently report this information to the Department of Treasury. In accordance with the Act, this requires collection of Form 5734 “Teacher and School Support Staff COVID-19 Grants Certification” from each eligible staff. These must be collected by the District Office no later than December 4, 2020.

Staff Responsibility. Staff members will be required to complete this COVID-19 Grant Certification and attach your completed Form 5734. The final date for submission will be December 4, 2020. Your PIC number is required on this form. If you do not have access to this, please contact your building secretary who can assist you. If you are not able to submit the form online, this form can be completed in-person at the business office. Please DO NOT submit this form to the Michigan Department of Treasury as forms will not be accepted in this manner. Again, the COVID-19 Grant Certification form should be completed by all eligible staff.

Grant Payments. The amount of compensation varies based on the employee’s position and FTE during the 2019-2020 school year. The District is solely responsible for assisting with this data collection process. The Michigan Department of Treasury has maintained responsibility for distributing these payments. These payments will be disbursed via check on or about February 25, 2021 to the address included on your forms.

The District is pleased to assist in recognizing the efforts undertaken by our staff in these unprecedented times. The continued creativity, flexibility, and commitment of all district employees (whether it is virtual or in person) is a point of pride. Thank you for all you do within the District.
