Kickstart to Career Newaygo County savings accounts for local kindergartners will be open for deposits in December. In addition to an initial $50 deposit from the Community Foundation, families and friends will be able to make deposits into their kindergartners’ accounts to help them save for the future.
Created by Fremont Area Community Foundation in partnership with ChoiceOne Bank, Kickstart to Career Newaygo County will provide local students entering kindergarten from 2018 through 2027 with a deposit-only children’s savings account. Students will be able to earn additional contributions each year through 12th grade. ChoiceOne Bank will also partner with local schools to provide financial education in classrooms.
Upon high school graduation, students can use their accounts to help pay for post-secondary education and career-related expenses such as tuition, books, and training.
In November, each student will receive an account card in the mail with their account number. Deposits can be made beginning in December. Family members and friends may consider making deposits as part of a holiday or birthday gift or in recognition of other milestones and events in their student’s life.
